How to get lighter skin tone

To get lighter skin, first you have to understand what the definition of color really is, had you thought about that before? Well, let me tell you. Basically, color is a sensation produced in the eyes of an observer by the reflection of light emitted by an object, so, when we say that someone has lighter skin, literally, we’re saying that the skin of that person is reflecting more light to the eye of an observer. That’s why we use the word LIGHT. Notice that this article is “how to get lighter skin”, not “how to get whiter skin”, which is different. You can have e.g. brown skin, but it can be very glowy brown skin, which would seem lighter in tone, but not because it is whiter, but because it is brighter, it will literally be lighter… Remember everything lies in the eye of the observer, hence, if your face LOOKS lighter, then it is lighter. However, your skin tone will always be your skin tone; you can’t, and my opinion you shouldn’t, want to change it. But if your skin becomes more glowy and more radiant, more LUMINOUS, then, in essence, it is becoming LIGHTER and the appearance of it will certainly be lighter. Let me explain how you can make your skin lighter in that sense.

1.- Avoid Photodamage

Probably you’ve noticed that your skin tone was different when you were younger, that is because throughout your life, you’ve been exposed to ultraviolet radiation (UV), primarily from the sun, and that has altered the conditions and tone of your skin. This damage caused exposure to ultraviolet radiation, and that is called Photodamage. What you can do to prevent additional damage is obviously protect your skin from ultraviolet radiation, this can be accomplished simply by using products that contain broad spectrum ultraviolet protection (SPF). The higher the SPF, the higher the protection. Obviously, simply by protecting your face from ultraviolet radiation, you are helping your skin recover its natural tone, a lighter tone. Another thing I have to mention is that Photodamage can come not just from the sun, but also from blue light, the light emitted by computers’ screens and cellphones’ screens. Then, if you spend a lot of time in front of these devices, you must wear SPF every day. Simply by following this advice, your skin conditions should improve.

2.- Get LUMINOUS, BRIGHT skin: “Bring” more light to your skin

Damaged skin isn’t luminous, bright or glowy. (See the association of the word light with the words luminous, glow, bright) Protecting from UV radiation is the first step to “cure” your skin from damage, the second is to recover the loss of skin tone by adding glow to your skin. In my opinion, there’s no better way to do that than using a powerful product with Vitamin C. Vitamin C and other antioxidants are perfect to enforce the power of the SPF and give your skin back that loss of glow and bright. Remember, more luminous skin = “lighter” skin.

3.- Be realistic, wear makeup too

Sorry if I burst your bubble, but your Korean (or whatever nationality they are) stars/idols or models you see in magazines, commercials, etc. don’t have those skin tones naturally, they wear makeup… and, well, there’s nothing wrong with that, actually I am telling you this because I will encourage you to wear makeup… but I thought it was important to mention this, because you may think that you can get impressive amounts of glow without makeup, but I think you should be realistic, makeup can help A LOT, besides, the line between makeup and skincare is blurring in these modern times, you can find skincare properties in makeup, that way you get “artificial” looks while at the same time you improve them with “skin-nutrients”, such as antioxidants, emollients and SPF protection. Now that I have explained to you the “need” of wearing makeup, I’m going to explain to you which types of makeup will add extraordinary amounts of glow to your skin. Go for foundations, primers, highlighters, blushes, BB Creams, CC Creams with the words LUMINOUS, ILLUMINATING, GLOW in their labels. Also, in my opinion, LIGHTWEIGHT consistencies are better than creamy or powdery, because these create a more matte and “artificial” finish; actually, avoid matte products too, because these will give you an opaque look and reduce the amount of light that your face will reflect.

4.- Choosing the right makeup for your skin tone

You shouldn’t try to change your natural skin tone or color, my opinion is that when someone tries to change it, this person lacks some self-acceptance and don’t notice the pros and beauty of their own natural skin tone. Another thing: don’t wear a tone of makeup that isn’t your tone trying to make it lighter, it looks terrible and can make you look dumb. Instead, go for makeup that matches your natural skin tone BUT with ingredients that will make your skin more LUMINOUS. That will do the job. If these products contain Vitamin C and antioxidants, the better. Another thing I think is good to look for in makeup (especially foundation) is that it looks natural, makeup that doesn’t look like you’re wearing makeup. In my opinion, Sheer coverage is the best for this purpose.

I consider it my duty to help you achieve your goals of getting an even more beautiful skin. That’s why I thought it would be useful to suggest specific products to make it easier for you to take action and grab a product with LUMINOUS properties and “bring” more light to your face. The products that I list below contain the properties that in my opinion are the properties that will “bring” more light to your skin: Vitamin C, E, Antioxidants, SPF (sun protection), it says LUMINOUS and/or GLOW in the label, provides Sheer coverage, is Lightweight and has a very wide range of tones for almost every skin tone. I hope you like the selection I made for you. I tried to find products that offer all the aforementioned benefits in a single bottle. Choose the one that appeals to you the most. Please leave a comment and/or question, I’ll be more than happy to help.

Glossy face look

As the name indicates, a gloosy look is a look that gives your face a slightly wet appearance. In my opinion, this is a very hot look, because it makes you look healthy and sexy and gives your face an incredible amount of glow. To help you create the appearance of glossy skin, there are a few tricks you can use, which I’m going to share with you.

Your skin must be ultra hydrated and ultra glowy

It doesn’t mean it has to be oily, that’s something very different. It has to be hydrated. Deeply. But don’t worry, you can hydrate your skin very easily, all you need to do is choose the right ingredients for that purpose. The way I see it is like when you want to cook something, depending on the ingredients you use and the quantity of each one, the results will vary. There are as many variations of “recipes” as you can think, that’s why you need to know what to look for. In this case, you want to choose a “recipe” or formula with ingredients that will hydrate your skin and make it super glowy. The ingredient that in my experience will give you the greatest glow is Vitamin C, and when it comes to hydration, Hyaluronic Acid (or Sodium Hyaluronate), this ingredient basically acts as a moisture “magnet”, so to speak, allowing you to retain a lot of moisture in your skin and giving it a “plumping” effect, a very good thing. The combination of these two will give you, in my experience, a really significative amount of glow and moisture. More ingredients are fine, but for me, these two are the key for this purpose. I chose a moisturizer with these qualities for you, if you want to buy it right now or take a look at it, you can click here. I hope you like it, the product is both safe and environment friendly.

Avoid Matte foundations, go for lightweight-illuminating foundations instead

As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, glow and moisture are essential 🙂 that’s why I recommended to you a skincare moisturizer with the ingredients that I believe will be the most impactful, the “key ingredients” to have your skin glowy and moist, but if you get go even further and get the most out from you foundation as well, let me share with you what I believe to be the most important words to look for in your foundation, as well as the words to avoid in your fundation. First, avoid the foundations with the label “Matte”. The reason why you have to avoid using Matte foundations is because a Matte finish is the oppossite of a Glossy finish, a Matte finish will give you a velvety finish, but will “hide” the glow too (or at least will reduce its appearance), it will be very difficult to get a glossy look using Matte products, and even if you are able to get it, think about it: other types of foundation could not just not “cover” the glow, BUT ENHANCE it, improve it, unleash it. The perfect foundation for your desired look should say lightweight fluid and illuminating (or Luminous) or Radiant finish in the details. This two words will indicate that it’ll give your face an extraordinary glow, and if you’ve been hydrating your face and “feeding” it with Vitamin C, your skin will be radiant. I chose a foundation with these qualities for you, if you want to buy it, you can click here. I hope you like it. Oh! and if you find any difficulties finding the perfect match for your skin tone, don’t worry, just click here.

Apply moisturizing lip gloss on lips and eyebrows

Trust me on this one, this single step will truly enhance the look. This is a nice tip. See, the big picture of your face is more important than the isolated parts of it, and the general look of your face will look much glossier if you follow this simple step. Simply apply on your eyebrows as you would with your lips and then apply it to your lips. Look at yourself in a mirror and you’ll see what I mean. When choosing a lip gloss for this purpose, you want to look for one with moisturizing properties. I’ve chosen a moisturizing lip gloss that I find perfect for this purpose. You can check it here and buy it if you like it, I really recommend it, I hope you like it.

Use a lightweight liquid illuminator

As you’ve probably noticed already, when it comes to getting a glossy look, the best consistency to look for in a product is lightweight liquid. In this case, this product is especially powerful for this desired look, because it a liquid lightweight ILLUMINATOR, and well, glossy is all about illumination and glow. This product is the powerpunch of the whole combo, and without a doubt will give you and incredible amount of glow. Again, to make things easier for you, I chose a product with the mentioned properties, you can buy it here. I hope you like it.

What you need for a glossy look is a lot of glow and illumination and a very hydrated skin. For that, I recommended to you a moisturizer with Vitamin C and Sodium Hyaluronate, a lightweight-illuminating foundation, a moisturizing lip gloss to apply on both your lips and your eyebrows and a lightweight liquid illiminator.

I hope I could be of help for you. Please leave a comment and ask any question you may have, I’ll be more than happy to help you.

What is a skincare regimen – Summarized

A skincare regimen is the things that you do everyday to keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy. It includes:

Cleansing is the act of washing your face using a Face Cleanser: usually a soapy gel product with cleaning properties adapted especially for the skin, it helps to remove dirt, bacteria and unclog your pores. You want to wash your face with warm water (not cold, not hot) gently, and remove the cleanser with warm water as well. Being gentle with your skin is especially important, because your face is delicate and the gentler you treat it, the better it will look. The usual recommendation is to do it in the morning and in the evening, because if you go to bed with makeup on your face, your pores can get clogged and your overall appearance can be affected. Part of keeping your skin clean and beautiful is keeping your pillow and sheets clean too, because your skin will be in contact with them while you sleep. Keep your skin clean by getting a cleanser clicking here!

Toning is basically the act of refining the Cleansing. You can tone your skin by applying a liquid product named Toner after you wash and dry your face using a cotton ball. Remember you must wash your face gently? Well, sometimes you may be tempted to go harder on it in order to “deep cleanse”, but that would be a mistake… that’s precisely the Toner’s job, to deep-clean without treating your skin badly. To tone your skin, and give your face that gentle deep cleansing, and keeping it radiant and pure, get your Toner by clicking here!

Exfoliating is basically the act of carefully scrubbing your skin in order to cleanse the skin, therefore, this could be considered part of the Cleansing habits, however, exfoliation shouldn’t be done very frecuently, once every two weeks should be fine, but no more than that, because too much exfoliation can make your skin sensitive and hurt more than help; besides, if you’ve been cleaning your face day and night, and toning it, you shouldn’t really need exfoliating more than once a month. For this, you can simply use a scrubber or an exfoliating cleanser, which you apply by softly massaging your face (avoiding the area surrounding your eye) for about a minute and then remove with warm (not hot, not cold) water or a damp cloth. Click here to start exfoliating your face and give it that extra glow!

Moisturizing is basically hydrating, protecting and lubricating your skin, the product you need to moisturize your skin is the “most famous” skincare product, the moisturizer, typically simply called face cream. Most creams are moisturizers, they are used to mainly keep your face from drying. Moisturizers are applied after cleaning your face and after the toner, but before the sun-screen. Buy a Moisturizer for your specific skin type clicking here.

This is a very important daily habit you must acquire if you want to take care of your skin. Don’t leave the sun-protection only for sunny days. UV rays are very damaging for you skin, therefore, this is definitely part of a complete skincare regimen. It should be applied after applying the moisturizer. The “power” of protection is expresses with the letters SPF, the higher the number, the stronger the sun-protection. A 25-30 SPF is fine, more  than that isn’t necessary unless you have sensitive skin or you are too expossed to the sun due to your specific activities. Another thing that I have to mention here is that the light emitted by your computer screen and your cellphone is very harmful for your skin too. If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen or the cellphone, definitely you need a sun-protection product if you want to have a radiant, glowy and beautiful skin. Take action and get one here!

Moisturizing + Sun-protection + Coverage= one product

I have to say from the beginning that I love these products, because they are really practical, they are very easy to use, make your life easier, gives your face a very natural looking glow and coverage, all in one single product. You can cover the Moisturizing, the Sun-protection part and apply makeup in 1-2 minutes. These products are Tinted Sunscreens, BB Creams and CC Creams. These three products offer Moisturizing, Sun-Protection and coverage, all in one. In my opinion, there isn’t much of a difference between these three products, but any of the three is great. Get your own Tinted Sunscreen here.  Get your own BB Cream here and/or your CC Cream here!

A mask is a blend of ingredients you apply on your face, leave for 10-15 minutes and then remove. The purpose of a mask is treating your specific skin needs directly, for example if you have a dry skin, an avocado mask could be applied on your face, left for 10-15 minutes and then removed with warm water and/or a damp cloth. A mask can be applied once a week. A mask is applied after cleaning and drying your face and before you apply the toner and the moisturizer. Buy a face mask specificly for you skin needs by clicking here!

A serum, in a few words, is a concentrate, a power-punch. It’s a concentrated formula that targets your specific issues. It is applied after the toner and before the moisturizer. I would recommend using a Vitamin C serum to greatly boost the glow of your skin and to boost the protective power of your sunscreen/BB Cream/CC Cream. There are serums for every specific need of your skin, although I really recommend a Vitamin C Serum. Get your own serum by clicking here!

Eye Creams

The skin around your eyes are very sensitive and require especial attention because it is an area that easily can manifest signs of aging if not treated nicely. You should always touch and wash this part of your skin very softly. Eye creams are creams formulated specifically to give your skin in this area a fresh look, helping to prevent premature signs of aging and also helping with dark circles. I personally believe that using a good eye cream really makes a difference in your looks! Click here to get your own eye cream and start taking care of this important area of your skin!

Lip balm/Lip moisturizer

Just like with the skin around your eyes, your lips are more sensitive than the rest of your face. Your lips must be taken care of by cleaning them very softly and touched with care just like with the area around your eyes. You need a specific type of moisture for your lips in order to protect them and keep them moist, soft and beautiful. You can use a lip balm just for that. I would recommend one that adds shine to your lips and if it contains sun-protection, the better. A good idea, in my opinion, would be to get a lipstick that contains moisturizing properties and sun-protection at the same time, just like tinted moisturizers, BB creams or CC creams do with the rest of your face, but in this case, for your lips. Take care of your lips after getting your own lip balm clicking here!

A skincare regimen is a series of habits that help your skin look its best. It includes: Cleansing, Exfoliation, Toning, Moisturizing, Sun-Protection, Serums and Masks. The skin around the area of your eyes and lips is particularly sensitive and require especial care. If you apply all the products, this would be the order: Cleanser>Toner>Serum>Moisturizer>Eye Cream>Sun-Protection and/or SPF Tinted Moiturizer, BB Cream or CC Cream)>Lip Balm/Lip Moisturizer.

Retin A cream – Renew your skin

If you are not familiar with Retin A (tretinoin), let me explain a little. Basically, it is a form of vitamin A that helps the skin renew itself. That means that, basically, it will “peel” your skin, allowing new skin to appear, more glowing, softer, better looking.

In my experience… it really works.

It works, I’ve used it and I can tell you that my skin looked much softer, more glowing (definitely more glowing!), it smooths fine wrinkles, that’s for sure; it also makes wonders for oily and acne prone skin. When I used it for the first time, I was, in fact, amazed; it is almost too good to be true.

Just go easy on it. Seriously!

Don’t make the same mistake I made. Since I noticed very good results, I applied very generously… and then… I suffered the consequences… after three days, my face turned red, it was itching, stinging… it was horrible! my face was extremely irritated, dry and looked like it was aging, a lot of people looked at me and asked me if I had a hangover or if I felt bad…

I actually became very worried because it was extreme and I thought I had made a big, big mistake; I actually noticed wrinkles appearing and started to research if other people had similar experiences or something like that… but it was simply that I had applied too much. I used creams for sensitive skin to deal with the irritation and it just took time to recover and actually my skin looked better than before… because the cream was actually doing its job, but it needs time to recover and if you apply too much, it can seriously hurt. In fact, I had been warned about it, but since I didn’t feel any discomfort initially, I ignored the warning. Don’t do that, you might regret it. You don’t want to feel any discomfort at all. Also, avoid using products that could dry or irritate your skin.

Another thing you need to consider is the potency of the cream. It is sold in different concentrations. I recommend using the one with the 0.025% potency. No more than that.

Less is more with this cream

My personal suggestion is use it only once a week, only at night and don’t apply it directly; mix a portion of Retin A the size of a pea and mix it with a deeply moisturizing cream, avoid contact with eyelids lips and try to sleep on your back if you can the day you wear it. Always wear a good quality sunscreen FPS+50 and avoid direct sun exposure as much as you possibly can even during the days you aren’t wearing Retin A, this is because during the phase you are wearing it, your skin is more sensitive to sunlight and it could actually be bad for your skin if you don’t take this advice, it would turn counterproductive for you, so, as I previously said, just go easy on it. It could be good too if you take some time off after a couple of weeks. This is a much, much better strategy in comparison to the idea of applying a lot in hopes it will speed the process… that won’t happen, the only thing you’ll get is a red, extremely dry, stinging, irritated skin that will make you feel and look bad for many days… you don’t want that, trust me! Another good thing about going easy on it is that a single tube will last maybe for years. Retin A isn’t expensive at all, actually, in my opinion, it is very, very cheap, and it gets even cheaper and more effective if you use it in the right amounts, which is: Only a portion the size of a pea only once a week, before you go to sleep. You can’t get a better deal than that! The less you use it, the better it works.

How to apply it

  1. Clean your face, I suggest using a cleanser or a soap for sensitive skin. It will sooth and comfort your skin. Remember this cream is kind of “abrasive”, so, you want to pamper it during this process.
  2. Dry your face. Don’t be impatient. Wait until your face is completely dry.
  3. Take in your fingers a portion the size of a pea (seriously, no more than that, please) and add it to a good portion of a good moisturizing cream and apply it evenly. Remember to avoid the eyelids, the lips and the skin surrounding the eyes.
  4. Go to sleep, avoid blue light (light from the computer screen or your cell phone’s) and sleep on your back if you can, so you avoid impact of your face with your pillow.
  5. Wash your face the next day.
  6. Wear sunscreen the following days.

Retin A cream works. It’s a great product. Just be careful on how much you apply, how often and wear a good sunscreen. Your face will look so much better if you use this cream!

How to get a dewy skin – Using one single product

Yes! I know you probably think you need several different products in order to get this HOT look, but, honestly, you only need one single product. These are good news, since you will definitely save not only money, but time, nothing is worse than having to spend hours grooming yourself.  You don’t need to spend too much money or time in order to achieve this wonderful look. So, without further ado, I will go straight to the top. A 30+SPF Tinted Cream For Sensitive Skin is all you need. That’s it. Let me tell you why.

Moisturized and nourished skin= Glowing skin

Your face HAS to be and look soft. Creams for sensitive skins are definitely the best to make your face look and feel much softer, which in return will make your face look more glowing. This look is very easy to achieve this season (Spring), since the weather will naturally enhance it, and applying this type of cream will make it even easier. Also, remember that we aren´t looking for a matte look here, what we’re trying to accomplish here is a dewy look, I would’t say that they are oppossites, but they are definitely different; while a matte finish strives to give you a “porcelain” look, a dewy skin strives to give you a “beachy-healthy” look, kind of like if you were “sweating” a little… if that makes any sense haha, well, that’s why this combination is a winner, as you will see. Now, if you have very oily skin, don’t worry, this cream will actually improve your condition, making your face look dewy instead of oily; on the other hand, if you have a dry skin, this cream will actually hydrate it, but maybe it would be best if you apply your favorite moisturizing cream under it; preferably, I would recommend a moisturizing cream with aloe vera and/or antioxidants.

SPF Protection

I’ve heard several dermatologists say that sun protection is perhaps the most important thing to consider when it comes to having a beautiful skin. Once I heard one say: “Who are the women with the healthiest skins? Nuns, because they have so little direct sun exposure”. So, it seems like many experts agree on this one; sun exposure seriously hurt your skin, it worsens acne, accelarates aging, dries, inflammates and oxydate your skin; with this in mind, consider that this cream will keep your skin protected from signs of aging, inflamation, oxidation, dark spots, wrinkles, even from acne. Important, huh? This SPF factor will contribute to improve your skin condition in general over time. Actually, if you could choose only one product to use for the rest of your life, it would definitely be sun screen. But the good news is that you can have sun protection added to your cream. Another interesting tip is: When choosing your preferred cream, look for one with antioxidants, since this will potenciate the sun protection effect.

Flawless skin

Specially when it comes to this look, a flawless skin is necessary, but don’t worry, it is very easily achievable, since this type of creams will give you a natural-looking type of “foundation”. Even if you are a man, you can use it and nobody will think you are wearing any makeup, but the tone of your face will look uniform and flawless, hiding and healing any flaws you may have in your face, including scars, pimples, dark spots, etc. Note: It’s possible that you don’t find your perfect tone for your skin, since sometimes these type of creams have no more than 3 tonalities, which in my opinion covers most skin tones, but not all of them, however, if you don’t find a tinted cream that matches your skin tone, don’t worry, you can simply get the “non-tinted” version of it and simply apply your favorite foundation over it.

This is another benefit that comes with creams for sensitive skins with soothing and anti-irritating properties. Rich, creamy textures that characterize these creams will be key, since it will give your face a dimension difficult to explain, but basically, it will make it look younger. I believe that one should love oneself, I firmly believe that looking good is a sign of self love and self-esteem. Treating your skin nicely will be perceived by people in indirect ways. Using a cream for sensitive skin will make your skin feel and look much younger, I asure you that. It is difficult to explain, since you “feel” it and “see” it when you use these creams; trust me on this one, you’ll feel and look great.

The combination of the following labels in a facial cream will give you the perfect hot glowy appearance:

  1. “For sensitive skin”
  2. “+30SPF Sun protection”
  3. “Tinted”
